“Do I need lip filler or a lip flip?” We get this question a lot these days, thanks to the growing popularity of lip treatments. Full, supple lips are one of the most sought-after beauty goals. Not only do lip enhancements improve lip shape and size, but they can also boost self-confidence.
To plump the pout you’ve always wanted, you may be well-suited for either lip treatment — it all depends on your aesthetic goals. Here’s a look at the key differences between lip fillers and lip flips to help you choose the best one for you:
If you want a subtle, temporary enhancement, a lip flip may be right for you.
Fuller lips without filler? It’s now possible with this quick and easy lip enhancement treatment. A lip flip is an ideal choice for achieving natural-looking fullness without added volume. Instead of using dermal filler, lip flips use an FDA-approved neurotoxin, such as Botox®, to create the illusion of a fuller upper lip. During your lip flip treatment, Botox is injected into the top lip, relaxing the underlying muscles and allowing the lip to “flip” outward. The result is a subtly fuller-looking lip that can last approximately three to four months per treatment.
If you want a more dramatic, long-lasting augmentation, lip filler may be a better option.
FDA-approved dermal fillers are one of the easiest ways to revitalize your appearance. Made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that helps skin cells retain their moisture, this ultra-smooth gel helps replenish lost volume and fill in lines and wrinkles. For the lips, we offer Juvéderm Volbella®, Vollure® and Ultra Plus, all HA-based fillers. Your nurse injector can determine which one is best for your lips and your goals. Volbella, for example, is effective for enhancing the upper and lower lips, as well as smoothing smoker’s lines around the mouth. Lip fillers are injected into multiple areas in the lips and around the mouth to maintain the lips’ naturally soft and smooth feel while improving their overall contour. Since there are multiple injection sites, lip filler is a bit more invasive than a lip flip. But its results are much longer lasting, with up to 12 months of rejuvenation per treatment.
