Do Your Homework.
By homework, we mean the things you can do at home to reduce your risk of side effects. Avoiding blood-thinning substances is a great start. This means stopping use of aspirin and ibuprofen (NSAIDS, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) as well as alcohol and the common supplements vitamin E, fish oil, flaxseed oil, St. John’s Wort, ginseng, and ginkgo. There are also blood-thinning foods to avoid, including garlic, ginger, green tea, olives, almonds, salmon, and the spice turmeric.
Now for foods you should consume, especially after your treatment. The following foods have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce swelling: all vitamin A-rich foods, citrus, carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, bell peppers, kiwi, strawberries, and pineapple.
