So many dermal fillers, so little time! Even the savviest aesthetic consumers can struggle to understand the differences between dermal fillers and which products are right for them. If you need to brush up on the basics, you’re in the right place!
Here are the answers to your most frequently asked questions about dermal fillers, plus expert advice from our master-level nurse injectors:
Why are there so many Juvéderm fillers?
Juvéderm is the original filler of the Juvéderm line of dermal fillers. Every product in the Juvéderm line of fillers is characterized by a smooth gel that’s packed with molecules of a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance that helps our cells retain their moisture and elasticity. The major difference between the Juvéderm fillers is the size of the HA molecules. Generally speaking, the larger the HA molecule, the more dramatic, pronounced and firmer are the effects. Once we understand your facial anatomy and unique aesthetic vision, we can determine the ideal fillers to meet your needs. For example, if you are seeking subtle-looking lip enhancement, we may recommend Volbella over Juvéderm because Volbella is made with smaller HA molecules to reveal a more subtle effect. If you are looking to enhance and lift your cheek area, Voluma™ XC is formulated with robust HA molecules to provide the lasting lift you desire. Voluma is also ideal for defining/enhancing the jawline/chin area. Fortunately, our expert team of nurse injectors has years of experience and will help you design the filler regimen that is truly just right for you.
For lip augmentation, do I need Volbella, Vollure™ or Juvéderm?
The answer to this question depends on the look you want and how long you want it to last. We’ll go from smallest HA molecules to largest:
- If you are looking for subtle, natural looking enhancement of the upper and lower lips, as well as smoothing vertical lip lines, you may love Volbella, which is formulated with smaller HA molecules to rejuvenate the delicate mouth area for nine months to a year.
- Another trusted option is Juvéderm, the original filler of the Juvéderm line. FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, including smile lines and vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines), and marionette lines, Juvéderm can provide substantial lip augmentation for nine-12 months per treatment.
- If you are looking for longer lasting enhancement, you may prefer Vollure, which is formulated with larger HA molecules than Juvéderm or Volbella and lasts up to 18 months.
How do you pick the right injector?
As you already know, not all medspas are created equal in terms of the quality of their injectables treatments. While discounts are tempting, you are wise to stick with the most experienced injectors who draw from years of hands-on experience and advanced education. At Skin Care Institute, we have three nurse injectors who provide 25 years of combined experience administering successful injections. Skin Care Institute also prioritizes continuing education and training to ensure our injectors possess the highest and most effective level of injectables techniques. Ultimately, the bottom line is providing you, our amazing clients, with the best possible results.
Are Juvéderm injections painful?
Dermal fillers are a well-tolerated treatment. With any injection, there may be a slight stinging sensation for a moment as the needle is being inserted. To help minimize discomfort, Juvéderm fillers are formulated with lidocaine to numb the treatment area during the injection process.
When will I see results?
The best part about dermal fillers is the immediate gratification! You will see your results right away! Of course, you can also expect to notice some swelling and redness at your treatment sites, which will subside in the hours and days following your session. Be patient. Once any swelling fully subsides, you’ll be able to enjoy your true results, which is typically a week or two after your injectables session.
How long will my results last?
Depending on the fillers you receive, results can last nine months to two years. The longest-lasting filler is Voluma™ XC, the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area. Voluma is also FDA-approved to enhance the chin and jawline. Vollure can last up to 18 months, and Juvéderm and Volbella can provide up to 12 months of benefits.
